Heavy rain causes widespread flooding across Washington DC area
WASHINGTON — Heavy rain is causing major flooding across the District, Maryland and Virginia during the Monday morning commute to work.
Flash flood warnings are in effect for Frederick County, Md. and Montgomery County, Md., Fairfax County, Va., Loudoun County, Va. until 10:45 a.m. on Monday. There is also a flash flood warning for Alexandria, Va. and Fairfax County, Va., D.C. and Prince George’s County, Md. until 11:15 a.m.
In Frederick, Maryland, several roads are closed due to high waters. If you are in the area, you should avoid:
- West Patrick between Hoke at Hillcrest
- West Patrick closed between Kline and Catocine
- Highland Avenue
- 400 block of East Patrick Street
- Pennsylvania Avenue
- Shookstown near Waverly Elementary
- Opposumtown at TJHS
- Hamilton Avenue
- North Market Street
- College at Fleming
- Montevue (by County depot)
- Rosemont at Wilson
- W. College at Fleming
- Carroll Parkway
Several water rescues are being reported in Montgomery County, Maryland:
- Barnesville Road and Peachtree Road
- Cornflower Road and Kings Crossing Boulevard
- Quince Orchard Road and Wonderview Way
- Turkey foot Road and Falling Leaf Drive
- Richter Farm Road and Coachmans Road
- Goldsboro Road between River Road and MacArthur Boulevard

Several people were rescued from a minivan after a woman was seen on the roof of the vehicle trapped in high water on River Road in Potomac, Maryland.

Just miles away in Clarksburg, Newcut Road and MD 355 (Frederick Road) are completely washed out.
In Virginia, the left lanes are reopening on the Capital Beltway (I-495) after a tree fell onto a vehicle. You can expect delays near I-66. Follow police direction.

On Lee Highway at Kirkwood and Spout Run and Route 1 northbound at Route 110 has been completely shutdown due to flooding.
So far, first responders in Fairfax County have been called to more than 30 water rescues.

In the District, commuters captured video of water coming into a Metro station.
Showers and isolated storms will continue into mid-day Monday.
